Bruun Rasmussen is Scandinavia's largest auction house, with roots going back to 6 October 1948, when Arne Bruun Rasmussen brought down the ivory hammer for the first time at Bredgade in central Copenhagen. What began as a single-room operation grew into a dominant force in the Nordic art market over seven decades, covering fine art, antiques, jewellery, watches, wine, coins, and design across more than 75,000 lots sold annually. The company remained family-owned through three generations - Arne's son Jesper serving as chairman from 1985, and two grandchildren active in the business - before joining the Bonhams network in 2022.

In autumn 2023, Bruun Rasmussen made its most significant move in decades, relocating from the historic Bredgade premises to a purpose-built headquarters at Nørgaardsvej 3 in Lyngby, north of Copenhagen. The new facility opened on 2 October 2023 and gathers all auctions, exhibitions, specialist departments, and restoration workshops under one roof. The first live auction at the Lyngby address, held in December 2023, set the tone: a range of fine art and classical Oriental carpets tested the new auction hall to strong results.

At the Lyngby location, the strongest categories are paintings, jewellery, and furniture, with both live and online sales running throughout the year. The house is open for valuations, advice, and private viewings on weekdays and Saturdays, giving collectors direct access to specialists across all departments. Notable results from this location include a Rolex Submariner in 18-carat gold at 195,000 DKK and a PH Academy lamp at 140,000 DKK - representative of the breadth of material that passes through the saleroom.
