Fineart was established in May 2002, spun out from the online auction site yatack.no to become a dedicated internet auction house for art at fineart.no. The model was built on daily online auctions - a format that proved ahead of its time in the Norwegian market. From 2004 onwards the business evolved from a pure auction platform into a full art house, with fixed-price gallery sales eventually accounting for more than half of revenue.
The physical gallery at Filipstad Brygge 2 on Oslo's Tjuvholmen peninsula spans 2,000 square metres across four rooms. Through the online platform, Fineart represents more than 700 artists and is the largest reseller of art in Norway by volume. The house also acquired Kunstklubben AS, Norway's oldest art club, together with its publication Aktuell Kunst. The auction catalogue is overwhelmingly weighted towards prints and graphics, reflecting the house's core identity as a platform for accessible, edition-based contemporary and modern Norwegian art.
