Olof Behrens

Born in Helsingborg in 1978, Olof Behrens grew up in the industrial-coastal landscape of northwestern Skåne before committing to a decade of formal training in art and design. That sustained period of study - ten years across different institutions - gave his practice a technical breadth that underpins what appears, at first glance, to be spontaneous or instinctive work. He lives and works in Rydebäck, in a studio that once belonged to the Concrete artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd, a proximity to postwar Swedish abstraction that is not incidental.

Behrens describes his process as reactive: he takes note of what occupies or attracts his attention and converts that material into visual form. The result is a body of work in which pop culture imagery, brand aesthetics, street art sensibilities and more interior psychological territories sit alongside each other without obvious hierarchy. Bold color and precise, often playful line work are characteristic. His paintings tend toward the multilayered, building up surfaces where figuration and abstraction coexist rather than compete.

Beyond painting, his practice extends to printmaking, illustration and commercial collaboration. His prints - giclée editions and graphic works - are distributed through Fineart.no, the Oslo-based gallery and one of the largest art retailers in Norway, which explains the Norwegian provenance attached to much of his secondary-market activity. He is also represented by NOA Gallery in Sweden. His exhibition at Klippams konsthall, titled "Gränsland" (Borderland), brought together paintings, graphics and collages and points to the deliberate tension in his work between distinct registers of image-making. A collaboration with Barsebäcks Bränneri, producing label art for their artisan gin releases, extended his visual language into design and packaging.

His presence at Bukowskis - with an oil on canvas that sold in 2018 for 4,860 SEK against a 6,000 SEK estimate - suggests he has attracted interest from collectors in the traditional Swedish auction circuit as well as through print-focused platforms.

On Auctionist, Behrens is recorded across 37 lots, almost entirely through Fineart.no with a single appearance at Bukowskis Stockholm. The works are predominantly prints and graphic editions, with titles like "Orange moon", "Etyd nr. 1-3", "Education", "City", "Vägens ände" and "En annan tid" appearing across multiple consignments. Sales prices have been modest - clustered around 250 NOK per print - consistent with the accessible pricing typical of edition prints rather than unique works. His market is still developing, rooted primarily in Nordic print collecting.
