Olle Alberius

9 actieve items

Olle Alberius moved between clay and glass with equal authority, building a career that spanned two of Sweden's most significant applied arts industries. Born in 1926, he became one of the leading designers at Roerstrand ceramics factory during the 1960s, contributing to the factory's mid-century output before making a decisive shift to glass in 1971 when he joined Orrefors.

At Orrefors, Alberius designed both everyday tableware and ambitious art glass. His tableware lines Erik (1974) and Victoria (1978) followed the company's direction toward a minimalist aesthetic with less colour and cleaner forms. But it was in the advanced techniques of Ariel and Graal glass that his artistic ambitions found their fullest expression. The Ariel technique, which traps air bubbles in decorative patterns between layers of glass, requires extraordinary precision, and Alberius was recognized as one of the artists who brought it to perfection at Orrefors. His cut crystal sculptures, including pieces like "The Bird" and the "Love Song" vase, demonstrate a sculptural approach to glass that transcended conventional vessel forms.

At auction, Alberius's work appears across Swedish houses including RA Auktionsverket, Auktionskammaren Sydost Kalmar, Thelin och Johansson, and Stockholms Auktionsverk. Glass pieces lead prices, with "The Bird" sculpture reaching 5,100 SEK and Ariel vases at around 4,760 SEK. The 163 items on Auctionist span both glass and ceramics, reflecting his dual career.
