Jussi Taipaleenmäki was born in 1948 in Oulu (Uleåborg), Finland, and moved to Sweden in 1964 at the age of sixteen. Largely self-taught, he developed his craft through unconventional means: working at Hyltebruks paper mill, he began painting on wrapping paper using industrial wax crayons, and from there built an artistic language described by critics as personal and boundlessly inventive.

He has been a full-time artist since 1979 and made his gallery debut at Galleri Smedsbyn in 1982. Over the decades he has exhibited throughout Sweden and internationally, including in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland, France, and Australia. His work is held in the collections of the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet, Smålands konstarkiv in Värnamo, Östergötlands Museum in Linköping, and Amos Anderssons konstmuseum in Helsinki.

His imagery draws on figurative tradition with a highly personal, expressive edge. He works in oil, mixed media, and printmaking, with color lithography a recurring focus. Recurring subjects include the human figure, landscapes, and intimate interior scenes, rendered with an emphasis on psychological atmosphere over strict realism. In 2004 he was selected to represent Finland at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he exhibited to an audience that included French president Jacques Chirac.

At Nordic auction houses, Taipaleenmäki is a consistent presence across southern Sweden, with works appearing at Halmstads Auktionskammare, Helsingborgs Auktionsverk, and regional houses in Småland. His color lithographs and small-format oils are the most traded categories, typically realizing between 1,000 and 5,000 SEK. His output spans more than 150 recorded auction appearances, with the strongest demand in the Swedish secondary market where collectors value his accessible price point and consistent quality.
