Ebbe Höglund was born on June 12, 1914, in Jakobs Parish, Stockholm. He spent much of his later life in Lund, where he died on April 7, 1993. Over roughly six decades he worked as a painter, sculptor, graphic designer, illustrator, and art teacher - a breadth of practice that was characteristic of his generation of Swedish artists trained across both Nordic and continental European institutions.

Höglund's formal education began at Högre Latinläroverket in Gothenburg. He then studied at the Konstindustriella fackskolan in Gothenburg (later HDK), under artists including Albert Eldh and Harald Skogsberg, and received further drawing instruction from Tore Ahnoff at Valand's painting school. He also worked under professor Harald Isenstein at Copenhagen's sculpture school, and studied in Paris at Les Ateliers du Goût with Paul Lipschutz and at the École des Beaux-Arts. This combination of Scandinavian craft tradition and Parisian academic exposure gave his work a particular range.

His oil paintings display a confident, expressive handling of paint - bold brushwork, saturated colour, and a fondness for the figure set within a charged atmosphere. Subjects range widely: children at play, ballerinas at rest, street scenes, pearl divers, nuns, performers, and Mediterranean landscapes. Works such as "Las Palomas," "Pärlfiskare," "Sittande ballerina," "Nunnorna," and "Gershwin Potpourri" give a sense of the theatrical and humanist sensibility running through the body of work. Some titles suggest an international orientation, with references to Spain and Latin America appearing alongside Swedish motifs.

Höglund was also an active illustrator and worked across media including pastel and tempera in addition to oil on canvas. His sculpture studies under Isenstein in Copenhagen add another dimension to his practice, though painting is the medium by which he is primarily known today. He held solo exhibitions in Stockholm, Gothenburg, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States.

On the Nordic auction market, Höglund appears across several houses in southern and central Sweden. Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 and Helsingborgs Auktionskammare each account for five recorded lots, followed by Skånes Auktionsverk, Höganäs Auktionsverk, and Laholms Auktionskammare. The highest recorded auction result in the database is 1,200 EUR for a two-part canvas pairing "Rymdresan" with the Spanish-language title "El viaje del espacio," followed by 3,000 SEK for "Las Palomas" and 1,612 SEK for "Sittande ballerina." His 37 recorded auction lots span a consistent range of figurative oil paintings, with the great majority categorized as paintings.
