Before he ever picked up a paintbrush professionally, Carl Julius Richard Schneider had already lived several lives. Born in Dresden on May 6, 1927, he studied at the city's Academy of Fine Arts while simultaneously attending circus school, where he learned to walk the tightrope. During World War II, he served as a reconnaissance pilot in the German Luftwaffe. When the war ended, he made his way to Sweden as a circus performer, eventually settling in Skane.

It was in southern Sweden that Schneider found his lasting subject matter. Working under the signature Carl Julius, he painted landscapes drawn from the coastal and rural scenery of Skane. The fishing village of Raa, Lerberget's harbor, and the broader Helsingborg area became recurring motifs. His oil paintings often depict quiet harbors with moored boats, open fields, and the particular quality of light along the Oresund coast. He also painted views of Kronborg castle across the sound in Helsingor, Denmark.

Aviation remained a parallel passion throughout his life. Airplanes from different eras appeared frequently in his work, from propeller-driven wartime aircraft to Swedish military jets. The Skanska Flight Squadron F10, based in Angelholm, commissioned him on several occasions to paint their aircraft, including the JA 35 Draken and JA 37 Viggen. He contributed illustrations to aviation books as well. Alongside landscapes and aviation subjects, he produced portraits.

Schneider died on October 12, 2017, at the age of 90. His work is catalogued in Lexikonett Amanda, a Swedish artist dictionary.

On the auction market, Carl Julius paintings circulate primarily through houses in the Helsingborg region, reflecting his strong local connection. Helsingborgs Auktionskammare accounts for 65 of 120 recorded lots, with additional sales through Auctionet (16), Markus Auktioner (8), and Hoganas Auktionsverk (8). The vast majority of lots are paintings (115), with a small number of drawings. A landscape with pheasant and dog brought 3,279 SEK, while a Helsingborg motif reached 1,800 SEK. Harbor scenes and views of Kronborg typically sell in the 750 to 900 SEK range.
