Halmstads Auktionskammare was established in 1848, making it one of Sweden's oldest continuously operating auction houses. Founded in Halmstad on the Halland coast, the house has spent over 175 years building relationships with private collectors, estates, legal offices, museums, and insurance companies across the region. The material on offer spans the 17th century through to 20th-century Scandinavian design, with paintings, furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, jewellery, carpets, and collectibles all appearing regularly in the auction calendar.

Halmstad carries a particular resonance in Swedish art history. The city gave its name to Halmstadgruppen, a collective of six artists - Sven Jonson, Waldemar Lorentzon, Stellan Mörner, Axel Olson, Erik Olson, and Esaias Thorén - who came together in 1929 and became one of the world's longest-running artist groups, active for fifty years. They introduced cubism and surrealism to Swedish audiences and exhibited alongside Salvador Dali and Max Ernst during the 1930s. That artistic legacy has shaped the local collecting culture, and works connected to the Halland art scene appear regularly at the auction house. The Mjellby Art Museum in Halmstad maintains a permanent collection of the group's work.

Today Halmstads Auktionskammare conducts its sales through Auctionet, reaching buyers across Sweden and beyond. Paintings and works on paper represent the strongest category by volume, consistent with the region's deep painting tradition. Notable results include a Madeleine Pyk oil painting that reached 170,000 SEK, reflecting the house's ability to attract quality material and serious bidders despite its regional setting.
