Tore Eldh was born on 1 July 1906 and spent his working life in Gothenburg, where he built a reputation as one of the city's most capable silver designers of the mid-twentieth century. His career unfolded during a period when Swedish applied arts were shifting toward the restrained modernism that came to be associated with Scandinavian design internationally, and Eldh's work in silver reflects that trajectory: functional forms with clean lines, minimal ornament, and a weight and finish that rewarded everyday use.

Eldh worked in close collaboration with Gothenburg's silver manufacturing workshops. His designs were produced by K&EC (K. E. Carlsson) and by Ceson Guldvaru AB, two of the city's prominent silver firms. This relationship between a freelance designer and a manufacturing house was common in Swedish craft industries of the era, allowing designers to focus on form while skilled craftsmen executed the work in hallmarked silver. Pieces bearing Eldh's name alongside the Ceson or K&EC marks appear consistently across Swedish auction records from the late 1940s through the 1970s, suggesting a sustained and productive working arrangement.

His output included punch cups, snaps glasses, beakers, candlesticks, and presentation silver. The punch cup sets and drinking vessels that survive in Swedish collections carry the understated elegance typical of the period: smooth surfaces, balanced proportions, and the kind of honest material presence that wears well across generations. Candlestick pairs in particular appear frequently at Swedish auction houses, produced in varying heights and profiles across multiple decades, pointing to their commercial success and continued demand from Swedish households furnishing their tables with quality silver.

Beyond silversmithing, Eldh was known in Gothenburg as a teacher of the craft, passing skills to younger goldsmiths. He was also a dedicated pistol shooter, a detail that points to the practical, technically minded character evident in his work. He died on 27 June 1967.

On the secondary market, Tore Eldh's silver performs reliably in Nordic auction rooms. His 68 lots at Swedish houses span the Silver and Metals category above all, with candlesticks and drinking vessels forming the core of what appears. Top results include a set of twelve punch cups in silver at 6,100 SEK, a pair of candlesticks at 5,522 SEK, and nine snaps glasses hallmarked Göteborg 1949 at 5,433 SEK, confirming consistent collector interest in functional silver from Sweden's mid-century decades.
