Thomas Sabo GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1984 in Lauf an der Pegnitz, Bavaria, by Thomas Sabo - an Austrian-born entrepreneur with a background that included stints as a musician and years of travel before he turned his attention to silver jewelry. What he built over the following decades became one of the most widely distributed silver jewelry brands in Europe.

The founding insight was straightforward but at the time genuinely novel: sell and distribute jewelry under a brand name, with consistent identity across all products. The silver jewelry market in the 1980s was largely unbranded, sold by material weight and craft alone. Sabo's approach gave sterling silver a commercial and aesthetic context it had largely lacked. The company expanded steadily through the late 1980s and 1990s, opening its first flagship store in Frankfurt in October 1998 on Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse.

The creative director Susanne Kolbli joined in 1992 and helped solidify the visual language the brand became known for: bold symbols, rock and gothic references, blackened silver details, cord and chain combinations. The Charm Club concept, launched in the 2000s, allowed buyers to build and personalize charm bracelets from a catalogue of hundreds of sterling silver pendants updated each season. The Rebel at Heart line leaned further into rock aesthetics, using skulls, swords and crosses in polished and blackened 925 sterling silver. The Karma Beads collection added a more meditative register with symbolic motifs.

Today the Thomas Sabo Group operates in more than 70 countries with over 1,200 employees and its own retail points of sale globally. The brand sits in the premium but accessible segment of the market - positioned above fast fashion jewelry but below luxury fine jewelry, which has made it a recurring fixture in the pre-owned and auction market as buyers look to acquire pieces below retail.

On Auctionist, Thomas Sabo accounts for 26 items across Swedish auction houses, with bracelets (7), rings (4) and earrings (3) making up the bulk of the inventory. Kaplans Auktioner in Stockholm leads the seller count with 9 lots, followed by Helsingborgs Auktionskammare and Orebro Stadsauktioner. Realized prices are modest - a sterling silver bracelet at 1,100 SEK represents the top result - reflecting the brand's accessible price point and the plentiful supply of pre-owned pieces on the secondary market.
