Tage Magnus Gavik was born on July 30, 1914, in the Vasa parish of Gothenburg, and spent almost his entire life in that city. He trained at Huvudskous målarskola (Hoofdskous Painting School) in Gothenburg, a private school that during the mid-twentieth century provided practical instruction for many painters working outside the academy system. His formation there gave him a solid command of oil technique directed toward observational, realist work.

Gavik's subject matter is consistent and geographically specific. Street scenes, housing blocks, harbour views, and the older residential districts of Gothenburg - Majorna, Masthugget, Lindholmen, Hästhagen - appear throughout his career. Titles such as "Ankargatan Majorna", "Masthuggstorget", "Göteborgs Hamn", and "Karl Johansgatan" read almost as a painted inventory of the city's fabric as it looked across the postwar decades. He also worked from motifs in Greece and Spain, extending the same realist attention to Mediterranean architecture and light.

His paintings are built around quietly observed detail rather than dramatic composition. The surfaces are direct, the palette measured, and the scenes carry a documentary steadiness that makes them useful documents of urban change as much as paintings in their own right. He exhibited independently at Göteborgs Konsthall and is represented in the collections of Göteborgs Museum. He died on October 4, 1981, in Högsbo, Gothenburg.

On the auction market, Gavik's work appears almost entirely at auction houses in western Sweden and the Gothenburg region. All 17 lots tracked on Auctionist are oil paintings. Göteborgs Auktionsverk accounts for the largest share of sales, alongside Auktionshuset STO Bohuslän and Örebro Stadsauktioner. Price levels are modest, with a top recorded result of 1,960 SEK for "Slottsberget Lindholmen" and several Gothenburg street scenes selling in the 400-900 SEK range. The market reflects a regional collector base with affection for documentary cityscapes of the city.
