Sven Lage Persson was born on 12 July 1899 in Åby, Kalmar County, and spent virtually his entire life within the cultural orbit of the Swedish southeast coast. By trade a carpenter and violinist, he came to painting unusually late, taking up oil work in earnest only around his fiftieth year. That late start did nothing to diminish the commitment that followed: Persson produced a body of work centred almost exclusively on landscape, finding his subjects in the flat limestone plains of Öland, the soft farmland of Skåne, the harbour towns of Blekinge, and the windswept dunes of Bornholm across the water.

Persson was largely self-taught, absorbing the conventions of Swedish plein-air landscape painting through practice rather than formal instruction. His canvases favour a direct, unhurried observation of place, recording shifts of light across open fields and coastal inlets without theatrical gesture. The work carries the quiet confidence of someone painting what he knows intimately, rather than what he imagines he ought to portray. An oil on panel of Fårö, Gotland, dated 1972, shows the breadth of his geographical curiosity and his ability to condense an entire island's atmosphere into modest dimensions.

His exhibition activity was concentrated locally. In 1954 he appeared in a joint show at Kalmar alongside Gustav Uddenberg, and in 1960 he exhibited independently at Ålem, Småland. These were not the calculated moves of a career strategist but the natural expressions of an artist embedded in his region, content to show his work to the audience that surrounded him. Kalmar Art Museum eventually acquired examples of his painting, affirming the local recognition his work had quietly accumulated over decades.

Persson died in Åby on 28 December 1993, having lived almost the full span of the twentieth century in the same corner of Sweden where he was born. His is an art of patience and particularity: the specific light of an Öland summer morning, the exact weight of a coastal fog over a Karlshamn fish market, the particular stillness of a village lane at Södra Sandby. These are not grand statements but precise acts of looking.

On the Nordic auction market, Persson's work circulates primarily through regional houses in Kalmar and the surrounding area, reflecting both the geographic loyalty of his subject matter and his collector base. The Auctionist platform currently holds 16 lots attributed to him, with active offerings appearing at Auktionsfirma Kenneth Svensson i Kalmar, Kalmar Auktionsverk, and Auktionshuset Thelin and Johansson. Recent listings include Öland landscapes, a fishing-boat study dated 1977, and topographic views of Fisktorget in Karlshamn and Kåtorp on Öland.
