Stina Sandwall was born in 1975 and grew up in a village outside Värnamo in the Småland region of Sweden. She trained at Beckmans School of Design in Stockholm, one of Sweden's most selective design schools, graduating in 1999. That same year she established her own practice, Sandwall Design AB, through which she has worked as a freelance designer spanning product design, furniture, interior architecture, and art direction.

Her work is grounded in a disciplined attention to materials and longevity. She avoids decorative excess in favor of objects that hold their relevance across decades, a sensibility she has described as timelessness in both expression and practicality. Early in her career she collaborated with Asplund, SnickarPer, and SnickarLaget, designing staircase and door systems that earned her the Excellent Swedish Design award. Her outdoor furniture and kitchen products were each recognized with the Swedish Elle Decoration Award in their respective years.

Sandwall's long-running collaboration with the Stockholm-based manufacturer SMD Design produced a series of pieces that became consistent presences in the Scandinavian design market. Among these, the Sticks floor-standing coat rack became one of her most widely recognized products. Its powder-coated aluminium frame and weighted base balanced visual lightness with structural stability, making it suitable across both residential and commercial interiors. She also produced the Flora mirror and a range of storage and desk systems for Voice Furniture, including the Overtime writing desk and the Viti sideboard, both of which have circulated at Swedish auction houses.

In 2022, Sandwall collaborated with fellow Stockholm-based designer Nina Jobs on the Donna lighting collection for Swedish brand Pholc. The Donna pendants and wall lights drew on fashion references, translating the look of soft pleated fabric into ribbed aluminium. The collection was reviewed in Dezeen and distributed internationally through design retailers.

At auction, Sandwall's furniture appears primarily through Bukowskis, Formstad Auktioner, and Göteborgs Auktionsverk. The database records 13 items in total, with her Viti sideboard for Voice and the Overtime desk among the most frequently offered lots. Realized prices have ranged from around 2,000 to 3,710 SEK, reflecting a secondary market for well-made contemporary Swedish design pieces in everyday use.
