Richard Ryan, born in Chile in 1974, is a visual artist and photographer who has built his career in Stockholm. After moving to Sweden, he studied at art school in the city and began working with photography early on. His work sits at the intersection of photography and printmaking, using his own photographs as the foundation for bold, layered silkscreen compositions.

Ryan's signature approach involves transforming his photographic images into graphic prints without digital manipulation. The resulting works carry a dreamy, slightly surrealistic quality while retaining the documentary energy of street photography. His subjects are almost always urban: crowded sidewalks, architectural facades, traffic, fashion, and the rhythm of city life. New York, London, and Stockholm provide the recurring backdrops.

His most substantial body of work is the Manhattan Art Portfolio, a series of twelve silkscreen prints begun in 2006 and completed in 2007. This was followed by Manhattan in Fashion in 2011, a portfolio of four lithographs. The London By Ryan portfolio, created in 2010, applied the same method to the British capital. Beyond the city portfolios, Ryan has explored Nordic cultural references in works like "John Bauer, Dreaming."

At auction, Ryan's prints appear regularly, with 100 items recorded on Auctionist. Fineart leads among auction houses with 46 lots, followed by Crafoord Auktioner Stockholm with 32. "The Manhattan Octaves" has reached 3,220 SEK, while individual Manhattan in Fashion silkscreens have sold for around 2,000 SEK.
