Born in 1945 in Karlstad, Lars Johansson built his artistic foundation through rigorous formal training, beginning at Konstindustriskolan in Gothenburg from 1962 to 1965, followed by studies at Valand, the city's art academy, from 1966 to 1971. The Valand years proved formative - the school's emphasis on both technical discipline and conceptual exploration gave Johansson a grounding that would sustain decades of work across multiple media.

Johansson settled in Skaraborg county after his studies, later moving to Skövde in 1985, where he became one of the most committed figures at Skaraborgs Konstgrafiska Verkstad, the county's printmaking workshop. There he refined both technique and expressive range in graphic art, pushing the medium to a fluency that placed him among the more serious practitioners working in the region.

His painting and printmaking draw a clear line to Japanese calligraphy - not as pastiche, but as a governing principle. The economy of gesture, the weight of a single brushstroke carrying an entire composition, the deliberate simplicity of motif: all of these inform work that spans oil on canvas, etching, lithography, and mixed media. Titles such as "Afton vid havet" (Evening by the Sea) and "Den sällsamma dagen" (The Strange Day) suggest a lyrical engagement with nature and atmosphere rather than purely formal concerns.

His career as an exhibitor began with the group show "8 st" at the Gothenburg Art Hall in 1968, and he went on to show at galleries and kunsthalles throughout Sweden. International exposure came through exhibitions at Centre culturel Suédois in Paris and Galleri F15 in Moss, Norway. His work entered public collections at Moderna Museet in Stockholm and at museums in Gothenburg, Skövde, Borås, Sundsvall, Eskilstuna, and Norrköping - a spread of institutional holdings that reflects sustained critical regard over a long career.

At auction, Johansson's work circulates primarily through regional Swedish houses, with appearances at Laholms Auktionskammare, Crafoord Auktioner Lund, and Helsingborgs Auktionskammare. The 15 auction lots recorded on Auctionist include oil paintings, etchings, colour lithographs, and textile prints, with prices in the accessible range of 300-600 SEK. Works include the etching series "Fjärilspuppor" (butterfly chrysalises), the colour lithograph "Måsen" (The Seagull, edition 151/170), and oil paintings from the mid-1970s. The modest price levels reflect both the regional character of his market and the fact that his institutional standing has not translated into sustained secondary-market demand.
