Kristina Assarsson was born in 1957 on a farm in Assatorp, just outside Mörarp, fourteen kilometers from Helsingborg in northwest Skåne. The landscape of that farm stayed with her: flat fields, summer light, the nearness of the Oresund. By her own account she had pencils and crayons from the time she could crawl, and drawing was a daily habit long before it became a profession.

Early in her career she worked in charcoal, focusing on portraiture. Over time she moved toward oil painting, and eventually settled on the palette knife as her sole instrument - a shift that defines her work entirely. Applied in thick, sculpted strokes, the paint builds up from the surface to create what she calls a "tavelskulptur" (painting-sculpture): landscapes where poppies, coastal grasses, or old farmsteads push out toward the viewer rather than receding into illusion. The effect is physically present in a way that flat brushwork is not.

Her subjects are drawn from Skåne and its surroundings - flowering meadows, fishing villages along the Råå shore, millponds, autumn fields - though the emotional register she aims for is consistent regardless of motif: warmth, light, an uncomplicated pleasure in the visible world. She has worked full-time as a professional artist for over twenty-five years.

Assarsson received the Helsingborg Cultural Grant in 1987, an early recognition of her work in her home region. She was featured in Hemmets Journal's art almanac in 2002. In 2014 she won the Artist of the Year prize at Art Nordic in Copenhagen, Scandinavia's largest art fair. Over the years she has participated in jury-selected exhibitions in Florence (2011) and at Art Shopping at the Louvre in Paris (2013), and has shown work in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Italy. Solo exhibitions include multiple runs at Galleri Lorentzon in Stockholm and shows at Galleri Passion in Nice and Showroom Boesner in Bremen. She is a member of Västra Skånes Konstnärsgille and participates in Konstrundan i Nordvästra Skåne, the regional open-studio circuit.

On the auction market, Assarsson's oils appear primarily at Helsingborgs Auktionskammare and Stockholms Auktionsverk Helsingborg, which together account for the large majority of her auction appearances in the Auctionist database. Prices have ranged from a few hundred to around 8,750 SEK, with landscapes and flower motifs in oil on canvas being the formats that attract the most buyer interest. Her work remains modestly priced, which reflects a market still oriented toward direct gallery and studio sales rather than the secondary auction circuit.
