Kaj Fogelberg was born in 1944 in Strandbaden, in the coastal parish of Brunnby in northwestern Skane. Growing up along the Oresund shoreline, he came to ceramics relatively late, establishing his studio practice in Munka Ljungby in 1981 after spending years developing his technical approach to stoneware.

Fogelberg built his practice around a single, focused idea: recreating the weight, texture, and quiet presence of fruit in fired clay. His apples, pears, plums, and pumpkins are formed in glazed stoneware and stonecold in their accuracy - not botanical illustrations translated into clay, but objects that carry the same unhurried gravity as the fruit they depict. Each piece is signed and issued in numbered limited editions, giving collectors a clear provenance while maintaining the character of studio work.

The technical side of Fogelberg's practice was deliberately problem-solved. His fruit sculptures include a characteristic stem detail that he refined over time: early pieces had the stem fired into the glaze, but breakage was common. He eventually settled on firing a small socket into the fruit body and attaching the stem afterwards with silicone, allowing replacement without damage. A practical solution that also shows the careful thinking behind work that can appear deceptively simple.

Alongside the sculptural fruits, Fogelberg produced glazed stoneware vases and bowls - quieter objects that show the same attention to surface and proportion. His palette tends toward the earthy and the restrained, glazes that sit close to the natural colors of fired clay without straining for effect.

Fogelberg has since retired from active studio production, but his work continues to circulate through the Swedish auction market. On Auctionist, his 26 catalogued items have sold primarily through houses in southern Sweden - Orebro Stadsauktioner, Helsingborgs Auktionskammare, and Skanes Auktionsverk - with apple and pear sculptures making up the majority of lots. Prices have ranged up to 1,000 SEK, reflecting the accessible, collectible nature of a body of work that valued craft consistency over rarity.
