Jonas Grundell trained at the Carl Malmsten School in Stockholm, graduating in 1986. The school, founded by one of Sweden's most influential furniture makers and now part of Linköping University, gave Grundell a grounding in the craft-focused tradition of Swedish furniture and interior design that would define his approach.

Since leaving school, Grundell has worked across furniture and interior design, primarily for private residential clients. His practice sits at the intersection of functional craft and domestic scale - objects made to be used, handled, and lived with rather than displayed at a distance.

His most widely recognized work is the Nordic Light candleholder, designed for Design House Stockholm. Introduced in 1998, it is built from wood and iron: smooth lacquered arms that fold out from a central iron loop. The piece can hold four, seven, or more candles depending on the variant, and folds flat when not in use. Its appeal lies in the logic of its construction - the joint that connects the wooden arms to the iron ring is both the functional mechanism and the visual centre of the design. Over the decades it has been issued in numerous colours and finishes, and remains part of the active Design House Stockholm catalogue.

Design House Stockholm, founded in the early 1990s, positioned itself as a platform for independent Swedish designers working in limited production. Grundell's Nordic Light became one of the house's signature pieces and helped establish his name beyond the private interior commissions that formed the bulk of his career.

On Auctionet, Grundell appears across 17 lots, all focused on the Nordic Light series. Items have sold through regional Swedish houses including Örebro Stadsauktioner, Formstad Auktioner, and Höörs Auktionshall. Prices have been modest, with top recorded sales around 400 SEK, reflecting the secondary market for accessible design objects rather than rarified collectibles. The category breakdown confirms candlesticks and lighting as the sole focus of his auction presence.
