Ingrid Nordström was born in 1933 in Malmö and spent much of her working life in the south of Sweden, dying in Ystad in 2004. She came to formal art training relatively late, enrolling at Forums Målarskola in Malmö between 1973 and 1977. Forums Målarskola - also known as Konstskolan Forum - was a private art school where Gerhard Nordström taught between 1964 and 1987, and it was there that Ingrid and Gerhard met. They married in 1977, the same year she completed her studies.

Her painting was shaped in part by study trips to Italy during the 1970s. The influence of ancient Roman fresco painting, with its fragments of color, eroded surfaces, and figures emerging from a deteriorated ground, carried through into her own oil-based work. She did not paint in a realist or academic mode but used paint in shards and broken fields, allowing figures, plants and fruit to coalesce from color arrangements rather than being outlined with contour. The result is a body of work with a quality simultaneously archaeological and immediate, as if the objects depicted had been recovered rather than constructed.

Her subjects returned repeatedly to the domestic and the natural: still lifes with flowers, grapes, cherries, and bowls of fruit; seated figures; portraits; and garden scenes. A painting of a fountain ('Fontän') suggests interest in the built landscape as well. She worked on canvas and panel in oil, and her surviving auction titles indicate she was also working as late as 2001 and 2007, showing a sustained output across at least three decades.

Ingrid Nordström is listed in Lexikonett Amanda, the Swedish biographical dictionary of visual artists, under her full married name Ingrid Nordström Holm. Her work appears occasionally in Swedish auction catalogues, with pieces turning up at regional houses across Skane and the southwest coast. On Auctionist, all 13 listed items are paintings in oil, with subjects including still lifes, female figures, grape and fruit compositions, and at least one signed portrait. Sales prices have been modest - the two recorded final prices are 1,739 SEK and 1,200 SEK - placing her firmly in the regional auction tier. The bulk of her market activity is concentrated at Limhamns Auktionsbyrå and Garpenhus Auktioner, houses with strong coverage of Skane-based artists. With 1 active listing currently on the platform, her work surfaces occasionally rather than continuously, making her a name to watch for buyers interested in Swedish post-war figurative painting at accessible price points.
