Born in Copenhagen on 19 May 1925, Ib Eisner spent his entire life and career within a few kilometres of the city's green edges. He entered the Copenhagen Academy of Arts in 1945, studying under Kræsten Iversen, Olaf Rude, and Axel Jørgensen - three professors whose influence encouraged close attention to observed light rather than constructed form. By the early 1950s Eisner had settled into the approach that would define him: direct, on-site painting of familiar places revisited repeatedly across changing seasons.

The forest park Dyrehaven, just north of the city, became his primary motif. He returned there in all weathers, working in series that tracked the slow shift from bare winter branches to the dense canopies of high summer and back to autumn colour. The method is consciously Impressionist - short, unblended brushstrokes of largely unmixed pigment, placed side by side to generate optical vibration rather than descriptive detail. Scenes from Tivoli and Bakken brought the same scrutiny to crowds and artificial light, while views of Bornholm added coastal light and open horizon to his palette.

Frederiksberg, where Eisner lived, supplied a quieter register: domestic scenes, garden interiors, and still lifes with flowers that he treated with the same immediate touch as his outdoor work. The Sankt Hans bonfire, a Danish midsummer tradition, recurred as a subject - firelight against darkening sky offering particular challenges in colour temperature that suited his serial working method. He also made pastels alongside his oils, a medium that suited rapid response to transient effects.

His works entered art associations and corporate collections in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and sold to private buyers in Germany, Japan, Great Britain, and the United States. That breadth of reach reflected consistent exhibition activity over five decades rather than any single breakthrough moment.

On the Nordic auction market Eisner appears most frequently at Bruun Rasmussen, where the majority of his lots have sold, alongside appearances at Palsgaard Kunstauktioner and Svendborg Auktionerne. A small number of works have crossed into Sweden, sold at Halmstads Auktionskammare. Recorded prices cluster modestly - top results around 1,500-1,600 DKK for oil paintings of Dyrehaven subjects - reflecting his position as a painter with a loyal domestic following rather than a speculative market. All 16 items catalogued on Auctionist are paintings.
