Håkan Berg was born in 1958 in Kristianstad, in the south of Sweden, and has spent most of his working life in Maglehem on Osterlen, where he has run his studio since 1998. The village sits between Kristianstad and Simrishamn in a part of Scania with a long tradition of visual artists drawn to the flat agricultural landscape and the strong coastal light - a context that has quietly shaped Berg's output without ever fully determining it.

Berg trained at Konstskolan in Kristianstad, followed by Bildlararutbildningen at Umea University, and then at Grafikskolan Forum in Malmo, where he deepened his grounding in printmaking. His practice spans graphics, painting, and sculpture, with a consistent preoccupation with how form, color, and texture function as a kind of visual language. He has spoken of the image as something whose smallest components can be disaggregated and reassembled - colors, shapes, and surfaces placed in relation to one another - a conceptual stance that aligns him with international traditions of geometric and abstract printmaking without being reducible to any single tendency.

His exhibition history is extensive and international in scope. He has shown at the IPCNY International Print Center in New York (2010 and 2014), and at venues in Russia, Belarus, Moldova, France, Germany, Denmark, Mexico, and the United States. In Sweden, he has exhibited at Liljevalchs Konsthall as part of Varsalongen 2021, at Tjornedala Konsthall, Karlshamns Konsthall, Brosarps Konsthall, and Gosta Werner Museet, among many others. In 2023, he received the Henry Mayne Stipendium, awarded by the memorial fund established in honor of the Simrishamn-based modernist Henry Mayne (1891-1975).

Berg's work is held in several significant public collections in Sweden, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Goteborgs konstmuseum, Statens konstrad (Public Art Agency Sweden), Malmo museer, Helsingborgs museum, and Kristianstads lans museum. The range and scale of these institutional holdings, combined with the breadth of his international exhibition record, place him among the more consistently active Swedish graphic artists of his generation.

At auction, his prints appear in editions ranging from small numbered runs to editions of several hundred, and in formats from traditional lithography and etching to screenprint and pigment print on paper. Works titled 'Komposition', 'Hagrin II', 'Koltrast', and 'Barndomen' appear in Swedish auction records, typically sold through Goteborgs Auktionsverk, Garpenhus Auktioner, and similar houses.
