Georg Thore Lindström was born on 16 August 1912 in Stockholm and spent his entire life in the city that became the central subject of his art. Without formal training, he developed a visual language shaped entirely by observation - the particular quality of light over Riddarholmskanalen on a grey morning, the crowded stalls at Klaratorget, the rhythm of passers-by in Kungsträdgården on a winter afternoon with ice skaters crossing the frame.

His earliest public recognition came through Liljevalchs konsthall, where he exhibited in 1944 and 1945, and through the Nationalmuseum's group show 'Unga tecknare' (Young Draftsmen), which gathered some of the more promising draughtsmen working in Sweden at the time. In 1947, he held a solo exhibition at De Ungas salong in Stockholm - a platform that often introduced younger artists outside the established academic circuit.

Lindström worked predominantly in oil on panel, a support that suited his direct, somewhat impastoed handling. His subjects ranged from market scenes and Stockholm street views to still lifes, portraits, and genre interiors. He also worked in mosaic, producing abstract compositions that show a different, more structured side of his practice. Works depicting sites like Hötorget, Lilla Bruksgatan in Malmö, and the boat sheds along the waterfront suggest an artist drawn to the texture of everyday working life rather than to decorative or idealized views.

The expressionistic quality in his cityscapes - the loosened contours, the heavy application, the emphasis on atmosphere over accuracy - places him in a tradition of Swedish painters who treated the urban environment as emotional territory rather than topographical record. His torg paintings in particular have a directness that comes from working repeatedly in the same locations, building familiarity rather than distance.

Lindström is represented in the collections of Stockholms stadsmuseum, confirming a lasting institutional connection to the city he documented across four decades. He died on 9 June 1985 in Stockholm.

On the Nordic auction market, Lindström's work circulates through a range of Swedish houses. The 11 items recorded in the Auctionist database have sold at prices between 350 and 1,000 SEK, with Stockholm-specific scenes - Klaratorget torgmotiv, Riddarholmskanalen, and a torgscen with the city hall in the background - among the most frequently appearing titles. Metropol and Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla have handled the largest share of his works.
