Per Fritiof Strandberg was born on 29 July 1906 in Bollnäs, in the Hälsingland region of central Sweden, and spent virtually his entire life within a landscape that would define the character of his work. Before committing fully to painting he trained as a craftsman and worked in that trade through the late 1920s and into the 1930s. Formal art studies came alongside this early working life: he attended Valands målarskola in Gothenburg in 1925 under Tor Bjurström, then moved to Stockholm for further training at Henrik Blomberg's painting school. These studies were extended by several working trips abroad - to Denmark, Norway, and France - that broadened his visual language while deepening his attachment to the Norrland character of his home region.

Strandberg made his public debut in 1924 at the age of 18, showing work at Hälsingestämman in Edsbyn. He went on to hold solo exhibitions in Norrköping (1942), at Olsen's art salon in Gothenburg (1946), in Söderhamn (1948), in Flekkefjord, Norway (1950), at Galleri St Nikolaus in Stockholm (1956), in Wilhelmina (1966), and repeatedly in Gävle. These appearances traced a modest but consistent arc through the Swedish regional gallery circuit.

His painting practice centred on oils, and the subjects he returned to throughout his career tell a coherent story: atmospheric Nordic landscapes, quiet town scenes, nostalgic domestic interiors, and occasional portraits and figurative compositions. He is consistently described as one of the most dedicated painters of the Gävleborg region, working within a factual, observational approach that carried the warmth of national romantic tradition. What distinguished his canvases was his handling of light - a quality noted by critics and collectors alike - giving even straightforward motifs a particular stillness and warmth.

In addition to his studio practice he taught drawing part-time at Bollnäs Folk High School and at Bollnäs secondary school from 1954. The combination of painting, travel, and teaching sustained a long career in a regional setting without access to the major metropolitan art institutions. His work entered the permanent collections of the Hälsingland Museum, Gävleborg County Museum, Sundsvall Museum, Hälsingborg Museum, Enköping Museum, Hudiksvall Museum, Bollnäs Museum, and Moderna Museet in Stockholm - where his paintings 'Sommarglädje' and 'Tidig morgon' are held. Recognition came through the Gävleborg County Art Association scholarship in 1969, the Royal Academy's annual scholarship in 1972, and Bollnäs municipality's scholarship in 1986. He died in Bollnäs on 27 March 1988.
