Englesson is a Swedish furniture company rooted in Djursholm, north of Stockholm, where it was founded in 1964. The origin is domestic in the most literal sense: Staffan Englesson, trained as an engineer, built a brass table for his wife Marilene. Neighbors noticed, requests followed, and what had started as a garage project became a full-time occupation. Staffan left engineering behind and committed entirely to designing and making furniture in the tradition of Swedish craftsmanship.
The early production was small and locally oriented, but the quality of the work drew attention beyond Djursholm. An antique cabinet that Staffan received as a birthday gift reportedly became another formative reference point, a physical argument for the kind of furniture Englesson would come to represent: solid, constructed to last, indebted to historical forms without being imprisoned by them.
In 1993 the company expanded its retail presence when the wives of the Englesson brothers opened an interior design store in the old dairy building in Djursholm. The shop became a social gathering point in the neighborhood and cemented Englesson's identity as a family enterprise. The business passed to the second generation, Johan Englesson took over as CEO, and production was scaled up through an own factory in northern Poland covering approximately 14,000 square meters.
The design language at Englesson is defined by a few recurring commitments: natural materials, considered proportions, and a color palette that moves between white, grey, black, and warm neutrals. The Stockholm series, hand-painted cabinetry with clean profiles, became the brand's most recognized collection. The Howard sofa, with its soft rounded armrests and generous cushions, established itself as a standard-bearer for the living room range.
In 2024 the company marked 60 years of production. On the secondary market, Englesson pieces appear mainly through Stockholm-area auction houses such as Stockholms Auktionsverk and Bukowskis. The Howard four-seat sofa has reached 12,100 SEK at auction, and a Stockholm vitrine sold for 8,500 EUR. The auction category spread, covering tables, storage, chairs, and sofas, confirms that multiple series circulate actively.
