Dominik Pawlowski was born in Poland in 1956 and received his formal training at the art school in Kielce between 1972 and 1977. In 1981, at a time of political instability in Poland following the Solidarity movement and the imposition of martial law, he came to Sweden and chose to remain. He has been based in Jönköping ever since, and the city and its surroundings have shaped much of his visual subject matter.

His earliest work in Sweden drew heavily on the impressionistic landscape tradition - light filtering through forest clearings, the flicker of a moment caught in a woodland glade. Over decades his painting evolved steadily, and the human figure began to enter the work in a new way: semi-abstract presences moving through dusky interiors and dimly lit urban spaces. Alongside oil on canvas, he has worked extensively in printmaking, producing signed lithographs in small editions.

Jönköping's built environment appears frequently in his prints and canvases. Works titled 'Hamnen' (the harbour), 'Piren' (the pier), 'Stora Hotellet', and 'Spira' - a reference to the city's major cultural venue, Kulturhuset Spira - reflect his sustained attention to specific places in the town. These are not documentary images but mood-driven interpretations, where architecture and light combine to produce a particular feeling of a place rather than a record of it.

His first solo exhibition was held at Galleri Smedbyn in Huskvarna in 1987, and his work has since been shown at galleries from Luleå to Ystad. In the Jönköping region he is represented by several galleries including Galleri R, Galleri 701, WEFA Konst, and Galleri Ö.K, confirming his position as one of the more established painters associated with the area.

In the Nordic auction market, Pawlowski's work has appeared across several houses. The majority of his 11 items in the Auctionist database come from Gomér and Andersson in Jönköping (7 lots), with additional appearances at Göteborgs Auktionsverk, Auktionshuset Thelin and Johansson, and Växjö Auktionskammare. Recorded sale prices range between 700 and 850 SEK, with lithographs of Jönköping subjects - 'Hamnen' and 'Stora Hotellet' - among the best-performing lots.
