Danka Jaworska was born in Warsaw in 1951 and has lived and worked in Stockholm since 1976. Her education stretches across four institutions in four countries: the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw; the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris; a residency under the DAAD program in Worpswede, Germany; and the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. This itinerary across the art schools of socialist Poland, France, West Germany, and Sweden shaped a practice that has never settled comfortably into a single national tradition.

Her paintings are large in format and built up in multiple layers of acrylic, applied with rollers, squeegees, and stamps as much as with brushes. A signature gesture is the open splash of paint thrown across a nearly-finished surface, adding energy and disruption to compositions already charged with movement. The result is surfaces of considerable physical density, where the history of making remains visible beneath the final image.

The figures that populate these paintings are almost always women, shown alone or in small groups, standing or seated, dressed in vivid clothing. Their faces are reduced to dark, anonymous contours, and their body language tends toward restraint: quietly occupied, inward, at times waiting. This deliberate withholding of identity throws attention onto the paint itself, the chromatic force of a scene that declares its emotion through color and surface rather than through readable expression. The contrast between still, silent figures and dramatically active paint is one of the defining tensions in Jaworska's work.

She has exhibited in more than 100 solo shows across Sweden, Germany, Poland, Denmark, England, and Italy, and is represented by Galeria M in Krakow and Galleri Mats Bergman in Stockholm, among others. Her works are held in state and private collections including the National Museum in Poznan, the National Museum in Cracow, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, the Art Museum in Lodz, the SAS/LIN Art Collection, and the International Portrait Gallery in Toulouse.

On Auctionist, Jaworska's 20 lots span paintings, prints, and graphics, circulating through houses including Metropol, Stockholms Auktionsverk, and Bukowskis. Hammer prices for her oil paintings have reached 2,400 SEK, with signed and numbered color lithographs trading in the 800-1,100 SEK range. The presence of her work across both specialist print and painting categories reflects a practice that has consistently moved between media.
