Björn Svensson worked as an industrial designer and entrepreneur in southern Sweden, founding the lighting company Elidus AB in Markaryd - a small town in Kronoberg county that had already established itself as a hub for Scandinavian lighting design, most famously through Hans-Agne Jakobsson's nearby workshop. Svensson's decision to base his operation in this environment placed him within a regional tradition of craft-oriented production where design and manufacturing remained closely linked.

The work Svensson is most associated with is the Kuben (The Cube) lamp, produced in a range of formats - table, desk, floor, and wall-mounted - during the 1970s. The design is built around a powder-coated metal cubic shade mounted on a slender adjustable arm, allowing the light direction to be repositioned easily. The lamps were produced in several vivid colours, with orange-red among the most recognizable, and came to represent the Space Age strand of Scandinavian design that ran alongside - and occasionally in tension with - the more organic shapes that dominate the period's popular image.

The Kuben lamp has attracted a recurring misattribution. Many listings, catalogues, and resale platforms have attributed it to Hans-Agne Jakobsson, whose Markaryd factory produced broadly similar work in the same era. The confusion is understandable given the geographic proximity and overlapping aesthetic territory, but the evidence consistently points to Svensson as the designer and to Elidus as the producing company he owned and ran. This misattribution has complicated Svensson's recognition in the design history literature, even as collector interest in the lamps themselves has grown steadily.

The Kuben series has become a sought-after object in the vintage Scandinavian design market. Floor lamp versions have sold at European dealers and auction platforms for prices ranging from several hundred to over 800 euros, while rarer brass and acrylic table lamp variants command higher amounts on specialist platforms. The lamps appear regularly at Swedish auction houses - including Stadsauktion Sundsvall, Ekenbergs, and Helsingborgs Auktionskammare - with pair lots of wall-mounted Kuben lamps and bedside versions achieving consistent results. On Auctionist, 16 items attributed to Svensson have come to market, with the top result being a pair of Elidus wall lamps at 650 EUR. The collector base includes both Scandinavian buyers seeking period interiors and international design enthusiasts drawn to the geometric, purposeful quality of the work.
