Axel Evert Eriksson was born on 3 November 1923 in Vänersborg, the son of metalworker Johan Leonard Eriksson and his wife Anna Charlotta. His formative years as a painter took place at Valands målarskola in Gothenburg, where he studied from 1944 to 1948 under two teachers who would shape his sensibility in quite different ways: Nils Nilsson, one of the leading Gothenburg colorists of his generation, and Endre Nemes, the Czechoslovak-born surrealist who brought a deeply literary and psychological dimension to Swedish art education.

In 1948 Eriksson mounted a joint exhibition in Visby together with Wolfgang Fridén and Kerstin Hallroth - an early sign of the commitment to Gotland that would define his working life. He moved to the island shortly after and stayed for roughly four decades, settling in the small parish of Fole in the island's interior. During this time he exhibited almost annually with Gotlands konstförening, building a steady presence in the island's art community while working through themes that were both immediate and literary.

Eriksson's subject matter ranged from the limestone landscapes and coastal edges of Gotland to figurative scenes with a clearly narrative charge. Works like "Flicka med svarta fåglar," "Vid aftonbönen" and "Novemberman" suggest a painter interested in mood and suggestion rather than simple documentation. His human figures - mothers with children, girls with flowers, solitary individuals against bleak November light - carry an intimacy shaped equally by Gothenburg colorist warmth and the more introspective current running through Nemes's teaching.

He also produced mural paintings, extending his practice beyond the easel into public space. Oil on panel was his preferred support for much of his work, a choice that gave his surfaces a smooth density suited to the tightly composed figurative scenes that recur across his output alongside the landscape work.

By the late 1980s Eriksson had returned to Mölndal, near his birthplace, where he continued to exhibit - joining group shows in both Mölndal and Gothenburg in his later years. He died on 19 May 2010 in Fässbergs congregation, Mölndal. His work is held in the collections of Mölndals Hembygdsförening.

At auction, Eriksson appears primarily through Swedish regional houses. Norrlands Auktionsverk and Auktionsfirma Kenneth Svensson in Kalmar together account for the majority of his 14 recorded lots on Auctionist. His strongest result was 1,600 SEK for "Gotlands kust," an oil on canvas, while a figurative panel "Flicka med röda blommor" reached 400 EUR. Prices are modest relative to the quality of the work, reflecting his limited market footprint beyond the regional circuit where he spent most of his career.
