Arne Wahl Iversen was born on 9 November 1927 in Nyborg, Denmark. His father ran a furniture shop in the town, which shaped his early understanding of craft and trade. He trained as a cabinetmaker before enrolling at Odense Technical School, then between 1949 and 1951 studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under Kaare Klint - the architect and furniture designer who became the defining figure of the Danish functionalist tradition.

At twenty-five, Iversen established his own studio workshop in Nyborg. In 1957 he began a collaboration with Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, producing furniture for the Swedish market. The partnership was short-lived; Iversen chose to pursue an independent path, and the IKEA-period pieces - including the "Varié" bar cabinet in teak - have since become collector items in their own right.

Through the 1960s and into the 1970s, Iversen produced furniture with a number of Danish manufacturers. His most enduring work came out of Komfort and Vinde Møbelfabrik, where he designed dining chairs, armchairs, sofas, and storage in teak and rosewood. The forms are disciplined and spare, with gently angled legs, paper cord or upholstered seats, and a material warmth typical of the Danish modern idiom. His furniture sold primarily in Denmark before expanding into other European markets and North America from the late 1960s onward.

A turning point came in 1968 when a bedroom suite from Vinde Møbelfabrik, shown at the Geneva furniture fair, caught the attention of Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly, who ordered one on the spot. The episode brought international attention to Iversen's work and helped open the American market. He remained active as a designer until the mid-1980s and died on 18 November 2016.

On the Nordic auction market, Iversen's furniture appears regularly across Swedish and Danish houses. The 46 items recorded on Auctionist span chairs, armchairs, sofas, cabinets, and desks. Top houses handling his work include Colombos, Stockholms Auktionsverk, and Bidstrup Auktioner. Rosewood desks have reached around 11,000 DKK, while sets of dining chairs in teak or rosewood typically sell in the 4,000-9,000 SEK range.
