Allan Albion Erwö was born on 13 April 1921 in Malmö and spent virtually his entire life in Skåne, making the region's coastlines, harbors, and city streets the core of his visual world. His debut came at age 21 when he was accepted to the Skåne Art Association's autumn exhibition in Malmö in 1942 - an early affirmation that set the direction for a long career rooted in southern Sweden.

Formal training followed after the war. Erwö studied at the Skånska Målarskolan from 1947 to 1948 under Tage Hansson, then continued at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen from 1950 to 1952 under Kræsten Iversen. Study trips to Paris, southern France, and Spain broadened his visual vocabulary and connected him to the currents of European modernism moving through Scandinavia at the time. His first solo exhibition was held at Krognoshuset, Konstföreningen Aura, in Lund in 1949.

Erwö's mature work is characterized by economy of means. From a few decisive lines and carefully chosen colours, he distills the essential qualities of a subject - the light over the Kattegat, the geometry of a Malmö backstreet, the weight of a still-life arrangement. Landscapes make up the largest part of his output, though he returned regularly to still life and urban scenes. From 1957, his Malmö studio on S:t Knuts Square served as his base for nearly five decades; from 1952 onward, summers were spent at a studio in Torekov, where he owned land overlooking the sea.

His work is held in collections at Statens Konstråd, Malmö Museum, Helsingborgs Museum, Landskrona Museum, Kristianstad Museum, and Motala Stads samlingar. Group exhibitions took him to Liljevalchs in Stockholm, Vikingsberg, and various Skåne venues. Over the course of his career he received ten grants and stipends, including multiple state working grants (1971, 1977, 1978, 1989), the Malmö Municipality Culture Stipend (1976), and the Erik and Frida Jönsson Stipend from Skånska Konstnärsklubben (1987). He was also active in the Artists' Collective Workshop foundation in Malmö, chairing its effort to provide affordable studio spaces for artists who could not maintain their own premises. He died on 25 July 2007 in Malmö.

On the auction market, Erwö's work appears consistently at Swedish regional houses. The Auctionist platform currently holds 19 items attributed to him, drawn from Garpenhus Auktioner, Auctionet, Markus Auktioner, Skånes Auktionsverk, and Björnssons Auktionskammare. The large majority are paintings, reflecting the dominance of his oil work on the secondary market. Recorded sale prices include a still life with a jug, siphon, and pot that realized 1,139 SEK, as well as a kerosene lamp painting that sold for 200 SEK - figures consistent with a regional artist whose work circulates primarily through southern Swedish houses.
