A global auction house specializing exclusively in 20th and 21st century categories, founded in London in 1796 by Harry Phillips, a former senior clerk at Christie's. The house gained early renown by handling estates of royalty and nobility, including paintings from Queen Marie Antoinette's collection, and remains the only auction house to have held a sale inside Buckingham Palace.
After acquisition by LVMH in 1999 and later by the Mercury Group in 2008, Phillips sharpened its focus on contemporary art, design, and luxury. Today it is the only major international auction house dedicated exclusively to the 20th and 21st centuries, with expertise in Modern and Contemporary Art, Design, Photographs, Editions, Watches, and Jewels.
Phillips operates primary salerooms in New York, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong, with representative offices across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
