Grev Wedels Plass Auksjoner (GWPA) is a Norwegian auction house established in 1992 by Hans Richard Elgheim, specializing in Norwegian art from the 19th and 20th centuries. The house holds a unique position as home to the Annual Edvard Munch Sale, the only dedicated Munch auction in the world, held every December since 2000. Over the years GWPA has sold more than 700 works by Munch, with hammer prices reaching up to 11.8 million NOK.
From 1992 to 2023 the house operated from Gamle Logen at Grev Wedels plass 2, the protected neoclassical building that gave it its name. In 2023 GWPA relocated to Bankplassen 1A in Oslo's Kvadraturen district. The house runs two major seasonal sales, alongside the flagship Munch auction and occasional thematic events.
GWPA holds the all-time Norwegian auction record: Theodor Kittelsen's "Kvitebjorn kong Valemon" (1912) sold for 36 million NOK in November 2023, making it the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction in Norway. Other landmark results include Munch's "Vampyr II" at 11.8 million NOK and "Madonna" at 8.2 million NOK. Despite a small team of around 5 people, the house ranks among the top art auction houses in Scandinavia by sale value.
The company is registered with the Norwegian Bronnoysund Register Centre under organization number 963 772 815, founded 5 March 1992.
