Wannenes Art Auctions was founded in Genoa in 2001 by Guido Wannenes, whose family - of Flemish origin - arrived in the Ligurian capital at the beginning of the 17th century and worked as art dealers for the following four centuries. Rome followed in 2003, Milan in 2008, Monte Carlo in 2017 (in partnership with Art Contact), and Turin subsequently - bringing the total to five locations across Italy and Monaco.

The Genoa headquarters occupies Villa Carrega Cataldi at Via Albaro 11 in one of the city's most distinguished residential districts. The Milan office is at Palazzo Recalcati, Via Amedei 8, and Rome at Palazzo Sabbatini, Via F. P. de Calboli 6. The house maintains over fifteen specialist departments, spanning modern and contemporary art, old masters, Russian art and icons, silver, jewellery, watches, design, ceramics, Asian art, antique carpets, furniture, coins, classic cars, and wine.

One of Wannenes's most distinctive offerings is its Private Treaty and Single Collections Division, which specialises in the discreet management and private sale of entire collections - placing the house at the high end of Italian collection services.
